PostSubject: Teen mom to be and breast feeding.   Tue Jun 08, 2010 4:16 pm

- I'm getting alot of grief lately for saying how I want to breastfeed my baby when he comes. Not so much from my family but from other people and a few 'friends' even at my last doctor appointment it was a girl filling in for my doctor as my doctor was out. I told her I was planning to breastfeed and she gasped and said that I shouldn't bother trying and a teen like me won't be able to breastfeed my child as I will give up straight away. I just ignored it but now its really upsetting me. Also a few of my friends are like thinking its so wierd that I'm going to feed my child and stuff. Now though the doctors comments are getting to me. I'm thinking of making a complaint. Ahh! Did any other teen mums who breastfed get grief?

Yes, thats what Im scared will happen even though my midwife seems supportive but Im scared the nurses there and the other midwifes will not offer help just cause im a teen.

Ye because I wanted information on breast feeding as in how to help him latch on etc and hoping the doctor would help out but that stand in girl wouldnt help me at all..

try not to be put off by them, just do what you think is best. they are meant to support you not tell you that you cant do something. if you show that you are confident that you WILL breast feed they wont be able to say anything against that.
the reason i gave up was because i was in shock from the birth, tired out and having no support from them. and also because the miswife got so fed up with helping me she gave me a bottle.

if you have any questions hun feel free to pm me :) id be happy to help.
ive been through really hard times with it because i didnt get much help, but ive got through it. sometimes the midwifes dont tell you everything you need to know, but ive learnt from doing. its completely worth it. i wouldnt care what anyone else thinks.. what you wanna do is amazing. and its the best start for your baby. for some reason people think its odd, but all your doing is feeding your child. babies love being close to you too, its a big comfort for them. its your choice, no one elses - this is your baby. but if you want help with anything just send me a pm :D xxxx

it completely depends on the hospital your going to and what the midwifes are like. first time i went in they were all older and treated me alot different to the other breast feeding moms. second time i went in, eva was 1 week and i was in a private room, the midwifes were so much nicer and willing to help with things, although i was bottle feeding by then, i do think if i had been on that ward i'd have got more support
